American actress Shannen Doherty, known for her roles, in the TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” passed away on July 13 due to a prolonged illness as reported by People Magazine.
“It is with sadness that I announce the passing of the actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13 she lost her battle against cancer after fighting the disease for many years. A daughter, sister, aunt, and friend she peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones, including her dog Bowie. Her family kindly requests privacy during this time to mourn in solitude ” shared the actress’s representative Leslie Sloane with the publication.
Shannen Doherty has been courageously battling breast cancer since 2015. The actress underwent a mastectomy along with chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Although she entered remission in 2017 sadly the disease resurfaced in 2019. The year she disclosed that her cancer had advanced and spread to her brain.
Through media posts, Shannen openly documented her journey with the illness. Encouraged her followers to prioritize their health. At times she was unable to work and relied on earnings, from past projects.
She earned a portion of her earnings from her role, as Prue Halliwell in the TV show “Charmed” during the three seasons spanning from 1998 to 2001.
Doherty was one of the individuals who spoke out against those who were spreading information, about Kate Middleton following her cancer diagnosis announcement.
“Being a public figure does not mean you belong to the public. We all have the right to live and go through illness away from prying eyes,” the actress wrote.
In an interview with People Magazine last November, Shannen stated that she did not want to die.
“I’m not done living. I’m not done loving. I’m not done creating. I’m not done hoping for things to get better. Furthermore, I’m just not… I’m not done,” she said.
