The royals have quite a few restrictions and rules that they are bound to follow. However, sometimes the royals refuse to follow protocol. So, as part of a Caribbean morning celebrating Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee, Kate Middleton broke a strict ban on selfies for the first time.
During their trip, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge bypassed the established order by taking selfies with fans. The couple was pictured with the Jamaica Bobsleigh & Skeleton Jamaican bobsledding team. The couple even shared the shot on their official account with the caption, “Nice to meet you all today.”
Members of the royal family are believed to be forbidden from taking selfies. Elizabeth II has always refused to take these kinds of photos because she considers them strange. According to the queen, fans wanting to take pictures with her are confusing and distracting from work duties.
It is assumed that Kate and Prince William broke the rule due to an update to their image. This is being handled by digital communications specialist David Watkins. His plan is to make the couple’s social media more “live” and democratic.
