During a meeting with World War II veterans, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Prince William responded to a question about the health of Kate Middleton, amid her ongoing cancer treatment. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
On June 6, 1944, the historic Allied landing in Normandy took place. To commemorate the anniversary, three members of the British Royal Family — King Charles, his wife Camilla, and Prince William — arrived in Normandy, among others.
The Prince delivered a speech in Normandy and then met with the participants of the events. During his conversation with them, he was directly asked how his wife was feeling.
“Thank you, she is feeling better. She is very sorry that she could not be here today, she would have very much liked to,” replied Prince William.
While talking with the veterans, the Prince of Wales shared an interesting fact about Kate. He revealed that the Princess’s grandmother, Valerie Middleton., was a highly secretive cryptographer working for the Ministry of Defense. She was among those who managed to crack the Nazis’ secret code, which allowed the decryption of their intercepted secret messages.
Later, she married Kate’s grandfather, Peter Francis Middleton. One of their three sons, Michael, became the father of the Princess.
Prince of Wales explained that Kate only learned about her grandmother’s role in World War II shortly before her death, as Valerie had been obligated to keep everything related to her secret work confidential.
The attendees at the meeting expressed their regret that the Princess of Wales was unable to make it. However, this was to be expected. As previously reported, Kate Middleton is currently recovering after a course of chemotherapy.
