Matthew McConaughey says Woody Harrelson could be his half-brother. He talked about it on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast. According to the actor, they are considering taking a DNA test to find out if they are actually related. It all started with McConaughey’s mother’s confession…

McConaughey and Harrelson have known each other for many years. The actors became friends while filming the TV series “True Detective” and then went on vacation to Greece with their loved ones.

“A few years ago, we were sitting in Greece discussing how close we and our families were. And my mom said, ‘Woody, I knew your father.’ Everyone understood the details she left out after she ‘knew.’ It was a loaded word, said McConaughey.

After this statement, the actors carefully studied their family tree and found some interesting facts: Harrelson’s father and McConaughey’s mother were both in Texas at the time when McConaughey’s parents were getting a divorce. The actors also found receipts from places where McConaughey’s mother and Harrelson’s father could have met.

According to McConaughey, he and Woody treat each other like brothers. Both were born in Texas, albeit in different cities, and met in 1999 while filming “EDtv”. Harrelson is now 61 years old, while McConaughey is 51.

McConaughey noted that their families are friends: the actor’s children call Harrelson “Uncle Woody”, and Woody’s children also refer to him in the same way. Many also notice the visual resemblance between the actors.

“Look at our photos. My family thinks that in some of Woody’s photos, it’s me. And in his family, they think he’s in many of my photos,” said McConaughey.

However, they have not yet made a final decision on taking a DNA test, as McConaughey is afraid to find out the truth about himself and his family. This is reported by The Guardian.

“It’s a little easier for Woody to say, ‘Let’s take a DNA test.’ What does he have to lose? It’s harder for me because I’m risking more. The test could show that my father is not my biological father. I suspected it for 53 years. But I have more to lose than Woody,” the actor added.

Woody Harrelson’s father, Charles, was a contract killer. Died in prison in 2007.
