Scott Moore the new CEO of the Invictus Games, in preparation for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s arrival at the 2025 Winter Games in Vancouver, asked, “How should I address them when they arrive?”
He received the response: “Address the Duchess of Sussex as ‘Ma’am’ and for the Duke of Sussex, it’s acceptable to simply say ‘Sir,'” reports The Daily Express, referencing the Daily Mail.
Traditionally, members of the Royal Family are first addressed as “Your Royal Highness,” followed by “Sir” or “Ma’am.” However, after Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, they gave up their titles of “His/Her Royal Highness” but retained the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The choice of “Sir” and “Ma’am” stands in contrast to Harry’s preference expressed at a 2020 conference in Edinburgh, where he suggested being addressed simply by his first name.
According to event host Ayesha Hazarika, Harry made it clear that he wanted people to call him just Harry.
As a reminder, this month Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly bought a property in Portugal for nearly 8 million euros, according to The Mirror.
Although they haven’t confirmed the “true reason” for purchasing such expensive property, Harry’s memoirs hint at a desire to spend part of the year in Europe, which would require a permanent residence.
Harry also mentions that Meghan shares a close friendship with Princess Eugenie, describing them as “like sisters,” while he has a developed good relationship with Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank. Both couples would like to spend more time together.
Royal expert Angela Levin told GB News that another compelling reason for the purchase is to give Meghan visa-free access to EU countries. Unlike Harry, who retains British citizenship, Meghan, as a U.S. citizen, never obtained a British passport.
