Elon Musk, who recently bought Twitter, unblocked the account of former U.S. President Donald Trump on the social network. He made this decision based on a vote in which 15 million users of the platform took part. 52% of respondents voted for the restoration of the Trump page. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
“The people have spoken,” Musk commented.
Earlier, Trump said that he was not going to return to Twitter, even if his account was restored, but in the last few hours his page has been subscribed to by more than 50 million people, and this figure continues to grow. Many Internet users believe that this will encourage the politician to change his decision because even the current U.S. President Joe Biden has 36 million followers.
Recall that the previous Twitter management blocked Donald Trump’s account on January 7, 2021, after the storming of the Capitol by supporters of the ex-president. The company felt that the politician provoked violence with his tweets.
Elon Musk completed the deal to buy Twitter in October of this year. He has repeatedly promised to return freedom of speech to the platform and has already restored a number of other accounts blocked for questionable reasons. Not everyone supports Musk’s reforms at the company. Most controversial are the mass layoffs of employees and the introduction of a paid subscription to the “blue tick.
