The 49-year-old Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is devastated that she was not nominated for the 2025 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Pablo Larrain’s film Maria.
According to insiders, Hollywood has sided with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, reports Page Six.
In the biopic, Jolie portrayed opera diva Maria Callas in the final days of her life. Critics praised her performance, noting that Jolie poured her heart and soul into the role. She even learned to sing opera and endured a grueling cycle of Hollywood press events to promote the Netflix film.
The news came shortly after she failed to secure a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award for dramatic performance. While Angelina did receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, the award ultimately went to celebrated Brazilian star Fernanda Torres for her role in I’m Still Here.
This decision by the Academy crushed the actress’s hopes for an Oscar nomination.
“Angelina will be devastated. Look at all her press appearances for the film—she wanted that nomination. She went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, her first late-night show in over a decade. She even attended the Gotham Awards. Furthermore, she appeared on countless magazine covers,” a source revealed.
An anonymous Hollywood awards expert told the publication that the lack of recognition from the Academy “was a setback for Angelina—or Netflix,” which produced Maria, adding that the actress “will undoubtedly be upset.”
According to a third insider, the Academy’s snub was linked to her high-profile divorce from fellow Oscar winner Brad Pitt, finalized last month after an eight-year legal battle.
They claimed Jolie enjoys significant support from international media, while Brad remains Hollywood’s golden boy.
“This just shows that Hollywood is Team Brad. The Golden Globes proved that international media adore her, but that’s not Hollywood. Nobody was willing to go against Brad and give Angelina a vote. People love Brad,” the source emphasized.
Other Hollywood veterans who missed out on nominations include Pamela Anderson and Nicole Kidman. Instead, the Academy chose to highlight many newcomers. The nominees for Best Actress include Demi Moore (Substance), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Mikey Madison (Anora), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here), who will compete for the honor at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2.
The film Maria marked Angelina Jolie’s return to the big screen after several years away, during which she focused on honing her directing skills and spending time with her children.
