Elon Musk made a significant announcement on Wednesday regarding his stance on the 2024 presidential election. Contrary to speculation, the Tesla CEO declared that he would not be providing financial support to either Democratic or Republican candidates vying for the presidency. Reported by The Daily Best.
In a post on the platform X, Musk emphasized his decision, stating, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.”
This declaration follows recent reports from The New York Times, revealing Musk’s meeting with former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump aimed to bolster his campaign’s financial resources.
Despite Musk’s status as the world’s second-richest individual, with an estimated fortune of $200 billion, conjecture had arisen about whether he would extend support to Trump.
Musk, who publicly disclosed voting for Joe Biden in the 2020 elections, has recently launched scathing criticisms against the current administration, even accusing officials of “treason” over their handling of illegal immigration issues.
Moreover, Musk has demonstrated involvement in local politics, particularly in Austin, Texas, where he urged Tesla employees to participate in the Democratic primary to oust district attorney Jose Garza. However, despite Musk’s efforts, Garza secured victory with 67 percent of the vote.
While Musk, primarily residing in California, remained silent on the outcome of the Austin election, he took to social media to express his views on politics.
Describing politics as tribal rather than logical, Musk concurred with comments suggesting the necessity to dismantle the two-party political system and criticized the tendency of Americans to approach politics akin to supporting sports teams. Musk also criticized Democrats for their leniency on illegal immigration.
