Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96. It was announced by Buckingham Palace. It is reported that the queen died at her country residence in Balmoral surrounded by relatives.

Her Majesty’s condition began to deteriorate rapidly on September 8. Doctors placed the queen under round-the-clock medical observation because of serious fears for her life. It soon became known that all of Elizabeth’s family had been summoned to Scotland for a final meeting with her.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla and Prince William were the first to arrive at the castle, followed by Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family. Many Britons gathered around Balmoral Castle to bid farewell to the queen.

Elizabeth II, crowned in 1953, became Britain’s longest reigning monarch in September 2015, surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

Britain declares 10 days of mourning after the death of Elizabeth II.

According to the principle of succession to the throne, Prince Charles is now king. He is now 73 years old. The ceremony to mark his accession to the throne will take place after the funeral of Elizabeth II. The exact date is not yet known.
