Prince Andrew is in trouble again! The day before, the Daily Mail reported that the son of Elizabeth II could be stripped of the title of Duke of York because of the scandal related to allegations of rape of a minor Virginia Giuffre.
According to the publication, after a unanimous vote of the city council, Prince Andrew lost the award “the Freedom of the City of York”, which was awarded to him in 1987. In addition, Andrew was called a “complete disgrace” during an extraordinary meeting of members of the municipal government. Advisers have called on the tarnished reputation of the prince to renounce the title of Duke of York.
“Since the Queen has stripped him of his military ranks and royal patronage, we consider it right to sever all ties of Prince Andrew with our great city. The honorary Freedom of York is the highest award that we, as a city, can give to those who represent the best in York,” said Daryl Smalley, executive member of the Council for Culture and Leisure. However, only parliament can officially deprive a person of a ducal title.
The council also noted the objections of the public calling for the prince to be banned from attending horse races in the city. Another representative, in turn, said that in the future he should be called “Andrew Windsor”.
Recall that last year, American Virginia Roberts-Giuffre said that Prince Andrew repeatedly raped her when she was underage. According to Virginia, it happened at the house of his friend, influential American millionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of selling people into sexual slavery and bribing potential witnesses.
