Mariah Carey will give a sworn deposition on January 17 in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by her brother, Morgan Carey, who claims she lied about him in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey (2020), reported by The Sun.

Morgan, who filed the suit in 2021, alleges that the book portrays him as violent towards her and their family, involved in drug dealing in the 1980s.

In her memoir, Mariah refers to Morgan as her “ex-brother,” claiming she often had to protect herself and her mother from him. Also hints at his alleged involvement with drugs, with Mariah claiming that her brother supposedly “covertly supplied the ‘powder’ to the rich and beautiful.”

A claim Morgan denies, calling it “false and defamatory” and harmful to his reputation.

Morgan’s lawyers argue he is not envious of Mariah’s success and has his achievements, wishing her only the best. Meanwhile, Mariah maintains her memoir is truthful. Though the court has dismissed parts of Morgan’s lawsuit, some claims remain.

The siblings’ relationship has been strained for decades, with reports indicating they have been estranged since 1994. Mariah also faced legal issues with her now-late sister Alison, who sued her over similar defamation accusations.
