Fans of Saturday Night Live (SNL) have expressed outrage over the decision to invite controversial comedian Dave Chappelle to host the first episode of the new season.
The episode, scheduled to air on January 18, will feature Chappelle as the host and rapper Glorilla as the musical guest. However, many are questioning why SNL continues to extend invitations to Chappelle, given his history of remarks about the transgender community that have sparked widespread criticism, according to The Daily Beast.
The last time Chappelle appeared on the SNL stage was in 2022. His current invitation as host has sparked negative reactions on social media.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Giving Dave Chappelle a platform to spread transphobic rhetoric is disgraceful. This is the third time you’ve invited him since he shifted the tone of his humor. It’s time for change.”
Another commented: “SNL’s decision to keep collaborating with Chappelle is tragic. Nothing kills my interest in the show more than their support for such a hateful and repugnant figure.”
