French President Emmanuel Macron was criticized for flirting with the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, during a banquet at Windsor Castle. The comments were published on the Daily Mail website.
The buzz started after photos surfaced showing Kate and Macron smiling at each other and clinking glasses. In some of the pictures, Macron even appears to wink at the Princess of Wales.
Some readers on the Daily Mail website were outraged by the president’s conduct: “Poor Kate,” “What a disgusting Frenchman. I feel so sorry for the Princess of Wales,” “Winking at the future Queen is inappropriate,” “Luckily, Macron’s wife didn’t catch him staring at Kate.”
The day before, Brigitte Macron once again put her husband, Emmanuel Macron, in an awkward position by refusing to take the hand he offered to help her down the airplane stairs upon their arrival in the United Kingdom.
A video captured the moment as the French President, standing at the bottom of the aircraft stairs, extended his hand to his wife, but she ignored it and descended on her own, holding onto the handrail in high heels.
Shortly after, Macron lowered his hand and turned toward Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, who were there to welcome the Macrons.
The couple’s relationship has been under the spotlight ever since a video leaked online showing Brigitte slapping her husband. The incident was widely discussed and mocked in the media, with everyone from Donald Trump to Elon Musk making jokes about it.
Macron confirmed the authenticity of the video but denied rumors of marital problems, stating that he and his wife were simply “fooling around.”
It’s worth noting that this was Macron’s first official visit to the UK in 17 years, and also the first visit by a European leader since the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Kate Middleton rarely makes public appearances and now only does so for significant events, as she is still recovering from a long battle with cancer. In September of last year, she announced the completion of her chemotherapy, and in January, she revealed that she is now in remission.
