Amid ongoing tensions with US President Donald Trump, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has launched a poll on whether he should create an “America party.” The idea is to offer a political alternative to both Republicans and Democrats, according to CBS News.

Musk shared the poll on the social media platform X. So far, support for the idea is winning, with 62.1% in favor and 37.9% opposed.

“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask yourself: do you want independence from the two-party (some would say one-party) system?” the billionaire wrote.

Musk believes that a new political force could potentially shift the balance of power in Congress. To do that, he says, it would need to concentrate its efforts on a few key districts. He suggests that one strategy could be “to focus only on two or three Senate seats and eight to ten House districts.”

“Given the narrow legislative margins, that would be enough to hold the deciding vote on controversial bills—ensuring they truly reflect the will of the people,” Musk added.

The Musk–Trump Feud

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk abruptly “clashed” in early June, when Tesla CEO criticized a congressional spending bill, calling it “an abomination.” Trump, on the other hand, praised the bill as “big, beautiful, and perfect.”

Musk accused Trump of being connected to the scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier who was charged with sex trafficking and pedophilia and later died by suicide. In response, Trump threatened to cut off federal funding for Musk’s companies and called the billionaire a “dangerous manipulator.”

Trump even said he planned to sell his red Tesla, which he had bought to support his former friend.

Shortly afterward, Musk admitted he had gone too far with his criticism and expressed regret. Trump, in turn, called Musk a “wonderful guy.” However, as we’ve seen, their truce didn’t last long.

Most recently, Trump said he would ‘have to take a look’ at deporting Elon Musk to his native South Africa, where he was born. Now, after a brief pause, the two are once again clashing—this time over a tax break bill.
