Brad Pitt’s rep commented on the news about a French woman named Anne, who was scammed out of more than €800,000 by fraudsters posing as the actor using artificial intelligence, as E! News reports.
“It’s terrible that scammers exploit fans’ deep attachment to celebrities, but this is an important reminder not to respond to unverified online messages, especially from actors who are not active on social media,” said Brad’s rep.
Hollywood actor does not maintain any social media accounts.
The fraudster quickly gained the woman’s trust by sending her poetic messages, professing his love, and even giving her gifts — expensive jewelry and handbags. However, to receive them, Anna had to pay more than €5,000 to cover customs fees.
Later, it was revealed that “Brad” allegedly needed urgent medical treatment. He claimed to have been diagnosed with kidney cancer and that his accounts were supposedly frozen due to legal proceedings with Angelina Jolie.
A French woman transferred hundreds of thousands of euros. And the fraudster sent AI-generated photos from a hospital room.
